    Cumulated yarn production in 2001/02 had amounted to 4.86 million tons by April, rising by 85,300 tons compared with the same time of the last year, a year-on-year increase of 8.53 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

April saw a continuously rapid growth of domestic yarn production which advanced by 53,500 tons month on month, a growth rate of 9.05 percent. Of that, the monthly production of Jiangsu and Shandong surged by 129,000 tons and 117,700 tons respectively, growing by 16.95 percent and 28.49 percent year on year respectively. Among the provinces with cumulated production exceeding 100,000 tons, Xinjiang’s drop rate topped, reaching 48,900 tons, a year-on-year fall of 22.62 percent.

Calculated at an annual spinning rise ratio, the domestic yarn production, by the end of May, might be 5.58 million tons. Assume that cotton consumption ratio rations 63 percent, the industrial cotton consumption is expected to accumulate 3.8 million tons in 2001/02.
